resources i used

  • phoenix code - html editor that lets you see changes in real time (i mounted my website to my computer to do this, otherwise you won't see visual changes like bg images)
  •
  • winscp.net - lets you manage and update website files, see this tutorial for details on setting up your neocities with this.
    • MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD A BACKUP OF YOUR WEBSITE BEFORE YOU EXPERIMENT WITH THIS. i didn't and ended up deleting my entire website off neocities when i clicked "sync"... now i just refresh and save.
  •
  • recurring links I consult:
    • scripted resources has an extremely useful collection of code bits including borders, menus, and overall pizzazz
    • rentry tutorial for getting foollovers borders to actually work. i use firealpaca for the grid segment and upload images directly to my website, but otherwise follow the same steps and it works.
    • w3schools.com is your friend, i reference their page on formatting images a lot!
    • table of swatches for css named colors
    • how to repeat non bg images using background-repeat
  •
  • anything else not shown here was searched for online!
  •

my process

  1. mount website (aka download all the files from neocities dashboard to computer)
    • use phoenix code to make changes to html files; make any other changes i want in the website folder like deleting images or uploading new ones
  2. use wniscp.net to update neocities by dragging and dropping the latest files from my computer folder to the program, then hitting refresh. if big changes, i delete all existing files and paste the new ones (useful if you removed images).
  3. verify changes went through on the live website
  4. done!!!!
